I finally remembered that my mom had a needlework book and searched everywhere for it. Of course it was in the last stored box of books. Since then, I have been happily teaching myself fancy crochet stitches, struggling to learn to knit (still) and yesterday i tried embroidery. While I'm not great at it, I have mastered a few stitches and cannot wait to make something fancy.

I picked up some sequins today and on the back of the bag, it reads ""For decorating use only" What else WOULD one use sequins for? The only other thing i can think of wold be like cake decorating and that warning isn't clear on not using them on food. This just amused me to no need.

With all my time off, i hauled out my craft magazines and was reading them far into the night. I have tons of things in the works now, but one i started today (and ran out of cord) is styro balls covered with cord. I used 2.5 inch balls and it takes 4 yards for thin cord and about 2 plus for the larger cord. Also i ended up having to use trim because the cord selection was limited in colors. Using trim is hard because the ends fray. I kept a bit of tape and glued the ends carefully down (using hot glue) and then wound around the top carefully, just a bit of glue and then held it down for awhile.

ps- i dont know why these images are so huge on photobucket. i'm trying to figre out why!

The other picture is of a dark brown tablescape. i pick up placemats discounted and then just gather things from around the house that match the hues.

birthday lampshade
I know this seems like a strange gift, but after making my friend a scarf for Christmas and all sorts of other goodies through the years, i was out of ideas. I had a plan to glue on fabric in the shape of her initials and then add some sort of trim. This had to be modified as none of the lamps at Good Will were decent and then didn't have any lampshades. At Hobby Lobby, they only sell lampshades that had adhesive on them, so i went for it. I might suggest the round ones being much easier. However i wanted the square and paid the price later. I selected a shimmering red with purple highlights for the fabric and the lovely bobbles with beads for the trim. Now getting the fabric on is really the easy part. Gluing the ends underneath is not. I ended up pushing the fabric to the glue with an eraser after two nasty burns to my fingers. I must say, the end result is lovely and once again i wish for a digital camera so i could share it with you.

I found the YUMMIEST candles at Wal-Mart but i didnt have a candle holder for a 4 pillar. So i set it in a silver platter. It was a bit too wide to fit. To make it stable i filled in the bottom and sides with beach glass. Perfect!

A friend of mine (bekahboobear) makes teddy bears. You can see her site here. Anyway, she has given me a bag of fur scraps. Fluffy pieces, wooly type pieces, felt pieces, all sorts. She gave them to me to use in my scrapbooks. And I love that idea. But does anyone have any ideas on how I can use them on my pages?????

Here's a picture of the bag of scraps she gave me to give you an idea of what I'm talking about...Collapse )

Any ideas, anyone?

i seriously love Joann's yarns! Some are a bit pricey for the yardage, but they make yarn styles that i havent found anywhere else, like Licorice and Voodoo.

i've been so bad about posting lately. Let's blame it on my obsession with crocheting scarves.
I accidently picked up a special edition of "Real Simple" called the organized house. It was rather pricy, but you can easily skim it at the newstand. It has great organizing ideas.
Also i have been watching this new show on HGTV about how a designer redecorates a room using what the homeowner already has. It's cock full of good ideas as well :)

and that's about it for me for today. I'll try to come up with some other ideas soon to keep you all entertained :)

I've just joined today and thought I should introduce myself. I'm relatively new to crafting but I love doing it and so i'm learning more every day. At the moment I make cards, jewellery and I knit. I'm hoping to branch out into crocheting and bag-making if I can get a spare minute. I also love photography and web illustration which fulfils my artistic side as my drawing is atrocious!!!

So I haven't got pictures of my work yet because i don't have a scanner and so far the photos aren't showing the colours right. When I finally get a good representation I'll post up some of the cards i've made.

Anyway that's all for now .... there's some lovely stuff posted up here and i look forward to seeing more and more and learning from it.

the more i looked at the cork top of the bottle i bought yesterday, the more its plainness bothered me. So i whipped out the hot glue gun and purple beads and covered the top. And now it's perfect! and yeah, i so need to take pictures!

New Year's eve decorating
ya know me, i gotta decorate for each season/holiday, so i redid the dining room table display (honestly i never eat there, just use it for decorating) in silver and blues, pulling out some blue-tinted glassware i have, blue and silver ribbons and a couple silver pieces, added blue candles and viola! i even got inspired to draw one of the glasses but since i am not so great at drawing, i wont be sharing that with y'all. But i framed it and put it above the table.

sorry for being so quiet lately. i was busy getting things done for the holidays :) i look forward to hearing from you about things you did to decorate and celebrate.
